Here's the Thing:
So I know I am about two seasons behind, but last night I started watching season 1 of The Tudors, and it's awesome! The show is based on the reign of the English monarch, King Henry VIII, who is probably one of the most well known rulers form the Tudor dynasty.
Season 1 highlights the period of King Henry's rule when his effectiveness as a king is tested by international conflicts, such as a desired war with France. Furthermore, the pressure for him to produce a male heir "forces" him to reject his Spanish Queen, Katherine of Aragon, and for many other female parmours, including the famous Anne Boyeln.
It stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry VIII, which Showtime has taken some liberties with, because honestly, the real Henry was nowhere near that attractive. In fact, according to my history book he was really gross looking, and kind of fat. Furthermore, during the time of which the show takes place Henry was about 40 years old, with a larger age gap between him and Anne. In the show Henry and Anne seem to be closer in age, but I am not complaining, they are both hot!
I'm only on the fourth episode, but I already love it. I have never really been that much into history but something about the Tudors, and the story of King Henry VIII and all his wifes captivates me. What can I say? I love a good scandal filled with sex, murder, power and betrayl.
Idealistically, I've always thought that it would be awesome to live during this time. Realistically though, I am an upper-middle class woman, so chances are I would have been married off to some old nobelman when I was 14 years old, and would virtually have no other role in life except to run the house and bear him children. Not quite the scandouls life I would have liked.
The Tudors airs on Showtime and I'll kep you updated on any information about season 4. In the meantime you can purchase Season 1 on DVD here:
